“Make sure nobody pays back wrong for wrong to anyone. Instead, always pursue what is good, both for each other and for all people.”
1 Thessalonians 5:15
Lumin’s Faithful Translation
The setting
Paul wrote to a young church in Thessalonica that was learning how to live as a community under pressure. Retaliation was the ordinary social instinct; Paul called them to a different pattern—actively pursuing good for fellow believers and for people outside the church. This was everyday discipleship, not a special occasion.
Reflection
Where are you still holding a harm you could answer with a deliberate good instead?
A prayer
God, I want to stop keeping score. When I feel the pull to pay someone back, turn me toward what is good and give me the nerve to do it.
Carry it with you
Today, when someone is short with you, answer with one concrete kindness instead of a matching sharpness. Choose one person outside your usual circle and do a specific good for them—a message, a meal, a practical help—without waiting to be asked.
