“Do not repay evil for evil or insult for insult. On the contrary, bless, because you were called to this, so that you may inherit a blessing.”

1 Peter 3:9

Lumin’s Faithful Translation

The setting

Peter wrote to believers scattered under suspicion and social pressure. In that honor-shame world, a sharp reply was the expected way to protect your name. He tells them their calling runs the other direction: blessing is not weakness, but the life they were summoned into.

Reflection

Where are you most tempted to repay an insult in kind, and what specific blessing could take its place?

A prayer

God, I want to win the argument more than I want to bless. Slow my reply. Give me words that heal instead of score points, and let the blessing I give be real, not polite armor.

Carry it with you

When a comment stings today, pause before you answer and offer one concrete kindness—a clear thank-you, a useful hand, or a word that protects the other person’s dignity. Name one strained relationship and do that one blessing before the day ends.
