“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”
Luke 6:36
Lumin’s Faithful Translation
The setting
Jesus spoke these words on a level place to his disciples and a large crowd, right after calling them to love enemies and refuse payback. In a world shaped by honor, debt, and retaliation, mercy was not softness but a costly choice to treat people the way God treats them. He tied everyday discipleship to the Father's own character.
Reflection
Where are you still measuring someone by what they owe you, and what would tender mercy look like toward them today?
A prayer
Father, your mercy has met me more times than I can count. Make me tender where I am quick to measure people, and give me courage to show mercy in the next ordinary moment.
Carry it with you
Today, when someone frustrates or overlooks you, answer with one concrete mercy instead of keeping score—return a message kindly, cover a small need, or let a sharp reply go. Let that act train you toward the Father's way rather than your reflex.
