“So if I, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, so that you also may do just as I have done for you.”
John 13:14-15
Lumin’s Faithful Translation
The setting
In the ancient Near East, washing a guest's feet was the work of the lowest household servant, because travelers arrived dusty from the road. At the meal before his arrest, Jesus took that role himself. He was not staging a ritual for its own sake; he was showing his followers that real authority bends down to meet ordinary, unglamorous need.
Reflection
Whose unnoticed need have you been stepping around, and what would it look like to take that low place for them instead of waiting for a more impressive way to serve?
A prayer
Jesus, I like being useful when people notice. Teach me to kneel for the work no one applauds, and to treat the person in front of me as someone you have already served.
Carry it with you
Today, choose one practical task you have been leaving for someone else—the dishes, a difficult errand, a quiet check-in with a person who is struggling—and do it yourself without posting about it or waiting to be asked.
