“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. For whoever serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by people.”
Romans 14:17-18
Lumin’s Faithful Translation
The setting
Paul wrote to believers in Rome who were dividing over food rules and sacred days. Some kept Jewish customs; others did not. He insisted that God's kingdom is not won by those preferences, but by a Spirit-shaped life that others can trust.
Reflection
Where are your choices still centered on personal preferences, and where could they show the right living, peace, and joy that mark God's reign?
A prayer
God, I get stuck defending my own ways. Teach me to serve Christ with honesty, peace, and a joy that is not about winning. Make my ordinary choices look like your reign.
Carry it with you
Today, when a preference or opinion starts an argument, pause and choose the response that is fair and makes peace. Do one small, concrete kindness for someone whose habits differ from yours.
