“Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap in keeping with mercy; break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek Yahweh until he comes and rains righteousness on you.”
Hosea 10:12
Lumin’s Faithful Translation
The setting
Hosea spoke to a farming people in the northern kingdom who knew plows, fallow fields, and the wait for rain. Covenant faith was pictured as soil work: neglected ground had to be broken before seed could take root. The prophet tied daily labor to seeking God, not as a festival moment but as ordinary, repeated practice.
Reflection
Where has your life grown a hard crust of routine, and what single furrow are you willing to cut so that right-living can actually take root?
A prayer
God, I am tired of skimming the surface. Break what is hard in me. Teach me to sow what is right and to wait for you to bring the rain.
Carry it with you
Name one relationship or habit you have left “untilled,” and take one concrete step today—an honest conversation, a repaired task, a small act of fairness—that opens that ground. Then do the next right thing without waiting for a dramatic sign.
