“And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patient when wronged, correcting his opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth,”

2 Timothy 2:24-25

Lumin’s Faithful Translation

The setting

Paul writes to Timothy while false teaching and sharp arguments are dividing the church in Ephesus. In that world a household servant represented the master’s character in public. Paul applies that picture to Christian leadership: the Lord’s servant wins people by patience and clear teaching, not by winning arguments.

Reflection

Where are you most tempted to treat a disagreement as a fight to win, and what would correcting that person with a quiet spirit look like in one concrete reply?

A prayer

Lord, I get defensive faster than I admit. Slow my words today. Give me a steady spirit so my correction, if I must offer any, sounds like care and not a contest. Teach me to trust you with the outcome.

Carry it with you

Today, when someone pushes back on you at work, at home, or in a message, answer the hardest point with one calm, specific sentence instead of a sharper reply. Offer to explain what you mean rather than proving you are right.
