“So you too, when you have done all the things commanded you, say, "We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we owed to do."”
Luke 17:10
Lumin’s Faithful Translation
The setting
Jesus spoke these words to his disciples after teaching about faith the size of a mustard seed. In a household of the first century, a servant’s daily labor was simply expected; extra praise was not the point of the work. He used that ordinary pattern to shape how his followers should think about obedience in the long stretch of ordinary days.
Reflection
Where are you still waiting for extra credit instead of simply finishing what you were already given to do?
A prayer
God, keep me faithful in the small assignments. Help me serve without keeping score, and find You in the work I already owe.
Carry it with you
Pick one quiet duty you already owe someone today—an email, a chore, a check-in—and complete it without waiting for thanks. Then notice how the work itself, not the applause, becomes the offering.
