“And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by peacemakers.”

James 3:18

Lumin’s Faithful Translation

The setting

James wrote to Jewish believers scattered across the empire who faced tension in their communities and among themselves. Wisdom “from above” was described as peaceable and fruitful, contrasting the bitter rivalries common in first-century synagogue and household life. The image of sowing assumes patient, ordinary labor rather than dramatic results.

Reflection

Where in your relationships are you still sowing rivalry instead of the peace that produces a harvest of what is right?

A prayer

God, I want the kind of peace that actually grows something good. Show me the next small word or deed that plants it.

Carry it with you

When a disagreement surfaces at work or home today, pause and speak one sentence that lowers the heat instead of winning the point. Then follow through with one concrete helpful act toward that person before the day ends.
