The setting
Near the end of the first century, the apostle John wrote to scattered Christian communities facing false teachings and cultural opposition within the Roman world. He reminded them that the resurrection of Jesus brought a new kind of birth from God, equipping believers to live differently amid surrounding darkness and doubt. John shows that Easter victory is practical and present. Because Christ rose, we receive a new nature capable of overcoming fear, discouragement, and whatever opposes God’s purposes. Today this invites us to face ordinary struggles with resurrection confidence, choosing faith that produces new life, hope, and courage in our relationships, work, and inner world.
