The setting
In first-century Judea, women carried aromatic spices to complete burial preparations for loved ones after the Sabbath rest. Several devoted followers approached the stone-sealed tomb expecting to tend Jesus’ body following his crucifixion, only to find it open and empty. These words redirect us from sorrow and finality toward resurrection victory and new life. The empty tomb declares that death has been defeated, offering fresh hope and renewal in our own struggles. Today it challenges us to look for God’s living presence rather than lingering in old places of defeat.
