“Before the Passover festival, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.”
John 13:1
Lumin’s Faithful Translation
The setting
In first-century Jerusalem, Passover drew thousands of Jewish pilgrims to remember God's deliverance from Egypt through a sacred meal. Jesus gathered with his closest followers knowing betrayal and suffering awaited him within hours, turning this ordinary preparation into the beginning of his final acts of love and service. This verse shows Jesus' clear awareness of his coming sacrifice while revealing the depth of his steady love. Even facing pain, he did not pull away but loved completely. Today it calls us to love others with endurance and self-giving, drawing strength from his example in our own struggles.

A prayer
Lord, you loved to the end even when it cost everything. Give me courage to love like that today. Hold my heart steady and fill me with your selfless care. Amen.
