“Now my soul is greatly troubled. What am I to say? Father, save me from this hour? But it is for this very reason I came to this hour.”

John 12:27

Lumin’s Faithful Translation

The setting

In the days before his arrest, Jesus spoke these words in Jerusalem amid growing tension with religious leaders. The city was filled with Passover pilgrims remembering God's past deliverance, while Jesus faced the path of suffering and betrayal that would bring final redemption. Jesus honestly expresses inner turmoil yet chooses to embrace his sacrificial purpose rather than escape it. His example shows that suffering can hold divine meaning and that love sometimes requires walking through pain. Today this invites us to bring our own fears honestly before God while trusting his larger plan of restoration.

Reflection

What situation is troubling your soul today? How does Jesus' honesty and resolve speak to it, and for what are you grateful in his example?

A prayer

Father, my heart knows trouble too. Help me hold onto your purpose when I want to run. Strengthen me to follow where you lead.
