“It was fitting that the one for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation complete through suffering.”
Hebrews 2:10
Lumin’s Faithful Translation
The setting
Written to first-century Jewish Christians facing persecution, this letter explains why the Messiah had to suffer. Many expected a triumphant deliverer, but the author shows that suffering qualified Jesus for his saving role, much like ancient heroes were proven through trials before leading others. Jesus’ suffering was not pointless but essential to fully equip him as our Savior. During this fifth week of Lent, focused on suffering and sacrifice, we are invited to view our own hardships and chosen disciplines as paths to deeper dependence on God and sharing in Christ’s journey toward resurrection hope.
Reflection
How does knowing Jesus was made complete through suffering change how you approach difficulty or sacrifice today? What are you grateful for in his example?
A prayer
Lord, thank you that Jesus endured suffering to lead me home. Give me courage to offer my struggles and sacrifices to you this Lent. Shape me through them for your purposes.
