“And the Lord said, "Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord will appoint over his household to give them the food ration at the proper time?" Blessed is that servant whom his lord will find doing thus when he comes.”

Luke 12:42-43

Lumin’s Faithful Translation

The setting

Jesus is teaching his followers about staying ready for the kingdom. In a first-century household, a steward was trusted to manage people and supplies, including the daily grain ration. Faithfulness here is not a grand speech; it is timely care for those under one’s charge.

Reflection

If the Master returned and looked at how you handle the people and resources entrusted to you, what “portion” have you been slow to give?

A prayer

Lord, I want to be found doing the work you already put in my hands. Keep me clear-headed and generous with the people who count on me, and let my ordinary tasks become real service.

Carry it with you

Today, pick one person who depends on you—at home, work, or church—and give them something they actually need before the day ends: a finished task, a clear answer, or a practical kindness you have been postponing. Do it promptly, not when it is convenient for you.
