“The farmer who toils must be first to partake of the fruits.”
2 Timothy 2:6
Lumin’s Faithful Translation
The setting
Paul wrote this from prison to a younger coworker, stacking three pictures of costly faithfulness: soldier, athlete, and farmer. In the first-century Mediterranean world, smallholders poured months of sweat into soil before any harvest, and the first claim on the crop was theirs by custom and need. The image pressed Timothy to stay at the slow, unglamorous work of the gospel.
Reflection
Where are you tempted to skip the long labor of the field because you want the fruit without the weariness?
A prayer
God, give me patience for work that does not look like fruit yet. Keep me honest in the field you have given me.
Carry it with you
Pick one ordinary task today—an email, a chore, a conversation—and finish it with extra care as if it were seed you will later eat. Name one person whose unseen labor feeds your life and thank them in a specific sentence.
