“In this way, let your light shine before people, so that they see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16
Lumin’s Faithful Translation
The setting
Jesus spoke these words to crowds gathered on a hillside in Galilee during His early ministry, addressing ordinary fishermen, farmers, and families under Roman rule. In that culture, public honor and shame shaped daily life, and “light” imagery drew from Jewish temple lamps and household oil lamps that guided others in darkness. His call shifted focus from private piety to visible acts that pointed others toward God rather than self.
Reflection
What fine deed could you do today that might lead someone to glorify God rather than praise you?
A prayer
Father, make my ordinary choices a clear light today. Help me serve in ways that turn eyes toward You, not me. Amen.
Carry it with you
Today, choose one concrete way to help a neighbor or coworker without announcing it—drop off a meal, cover a task, or send a needed resource. Let the action itself quietly reveal God’s care through you.
