“He taught, saying to them, “Has it not been written, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.””

Mark 11:17

Lumin’s Faithful Translation

The setting

In the final week before his crucifixion, Jesus entered the Jerusalem temple during the bustling Passover season. He drove out merchants and money changers who had turned the court of the Gentiles into a place of commerce and exploitation. Jesus’ act displays his zeal for true worship and justice, exposing how religious systems can crowd out genuine access to God. In this solemn time of remembering his suffering, it calls us to examine our own hearts and communities, clearing away whatever hinders honest prayer and relationship with him.

Reflection

What in your life today needs to become a place of prayer rather than distraction? Pause and name one thing you are grateful for in Jesus’ example of holy zeal.

A prayer

Lord Jesus, cleanse my heart as you cleansed the temple. Remove every distraction that keeps me from true worship. Give me courage to honor you above all, even as you walked toward the cross. Amen.
