The setting
Manasseh, king of Judah, ruled wickedly for decades, rebuilding pagan altars and even sacrificing his sons. Captured and bound by Assyrian forces, he faced utter distress in Babylon. In chains, he turned desperately to Yahweh, the God he had long ignored. God responds to humble, heartfelt prayer amid repentance, even from the deepest sin—restoring what was lost. In this Lenten week of prayer and listening, it invites us to pour out our failings honestly, trusting God hears and renews.
